Red Eyed Vireo Collection

The Red-eyed Vireo (Vireo olivaceus) is a small passerine bird that is native to North America and has a grayish-olive back, white underparts, and distinctive red eyes. The Red-eyed Vireo can be found in deciduous and mixed woodlands, as well as in suburban areas. It feeds on insects such as caterpillars and spiders, which it catches by hovering or gleaning from foliage. During the breeding season, the male sings an incessant song from high in the canopy of trees to attract a mate. The female builds an open cup nest out of twigs and grasses near the top of a tree or shrub. Both parents feed their young until they are ready to leave the nest after about two weeks. The Red-eyed Vireo is common throughout its range but may be declining due to habitat loss and competition with other species for food sources.
