Indian Pitta Collection

Indian Pitta is a medium-sized passerine bird native to South Asia and has a bright blue head, black wings and tail, and white underparts. The Indian Pitta is an omnivore that feeds on insects, fruits, berries and small vertebrates. It prefers dense forests with plenty of cover for nesting and roosting. The breeding season of the Indian Pitta begins in April or May when it lays two to four eggs in a nest made of leaves and twigs. During the non-breeding season it migrates southwards to India's western coast where it can be seen in large numbers during winter months. The Indian Pitta is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN due to its wide range across South Asia but its population is declining due to habitat loss from deforestation and agricultural activities. Conservation efforts are needed to ensure that this beautiful species does not become extinct in the future.
