Striated Pardalote Collection

The Striated Pardalote (Pardalotus striatus) is a small passerine bird found throughout Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand, and is a member of the pardalote family and is easily identified by its distinctive black-and-white striped head. The body of the Striated Pardalote ranges from olive green to yellowish brown in colour, with a white underside. Its wings are short and rounded, and it has a short tail with white tips on the feathers. The Striated Pardalote feeds mainly on insects, but will also eat nectar from flowers or fruit when available. It builds its nest in tree hollows or crevices in rocks or walls, lining it with grasses and other soft materials. Breeding season occurs between August and January when pairs build their nests together before laying eggs that hatch after about two weeks incubation period. The young fledge after another two weeks before becoming independent within three months of hatching.
