Eastern Meadowlark Collection

The Eastern Meadowlark (Sturnella magna) is a species of New World blackbird found in North America, and is a member of the passerine family, meaning it is a perching bird with feet adapted for grasping, bright yellow breast, white belly and distinctive "V" on its back. Its song consists of flute-like whistles and gurgles which can be heard from up to one mile away. It feeds mainly on insects, seeds and grains, but will also eat berries and other fruits when available. During the breeding season it builds nests in open grassy areas such as meadows or pastures. The female lays three to five eggs that are incubated by both parents for 12-14 days before hatching. This species is listed as least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature due to its wide range and stable population numbers across much of its range.
