Superb Lyrebird Collection

The Superb Lyrebird is a species of passerine bird native to Australia, and is renowned for its extraordinary ability to mimic sounds from its environment, including other birds, mammals, and even human-made noises such as car alarms and mobile phones. The male lyrebird has an impressive tail that can be spread in a fan shape during courtship displays. Its plumage is mainly brown with white patches on the chest and belly. The female lyrebird is slightly smaller than the male and lacks the elaborate tail feathers. Both sexes have strong legs which they use to scratch up leaf litter in search of food such as insects, worms, spiders, seeds, fruits and fungi. Lyrebirds are shy birds that prefer dense forests with plenty of undergrowth where they can build their large domed nests on the ground or in trees, and are listed as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List due to their wide distribution across Australia but their numbers are declining due to habitat loss and degradation caused by human activities such as logging and land clearing for agriculture.
