Goldcrest Collection

Goldcrests are small passerine birds that belong to the family Regulidae, and are native to Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia. Goldcrests have a bright yellow crest on their head and a black eye stripe which gives them their name. They eat mainly insects, spiders, and other invertebrates as well as some seeds. Goldcrests build nests in trees or shrubs using mosses and lichens. The female lays up to 10 eggs which hatch after 12-14 days of incubation by both parents. After hatching the young stay in the nest for around two weeks before fledging, and are generally found in coniferous forests but can also be seen in gardens and parks during migration periods or when food is scarce elsewhere. These birds are an important part of European ecosystems due to their role as insectivores helping to keep insect populations under control naturally without human intervention.
