Red Breasted Flycatcher Collection

The Red Breasted Flycatcher (Ficedula parva) is a species of passerine bird in the family Muscicapidae, and is found in Europe and parts of Asia, including China, Japan, and Korea. The adult has a bright red breast and face with white cheeks, greyish-brown upperparts, whitish underparts and a black tail with white edges. Its diet consists mainly of insects which it catches by flycatching from an exposed perch. It breeds in open deciduous woodland or scrubland habitats near water sources such as streams or rivers. The nest is built by the female alone on a low branch or shrub close to the ground. During migration it can be seen in large flocks along coasts and estuaries where it feeds on small fish, crustaceans and other aquatic invertebrates. This species is not considered threatened but its population has declined due to habitat loss caused by agricultural intensification.
