Rose Robin Collection

Rose Robin (Petroica rosea) is a species of Australian robin, belonging to the family Petroicidae, and is found in eastern Australia, from south-eastern Queensland to eastern Victoria and south-eastern South Australia. This small passerine bird has a bright pinkish-red head, neck and breast, with a white belly and grey wings and back. Its diet consists mainly of insects and other invertebrates such as spiders, worms, beetles and caterpillars, and are usually seen in pairs or small groups foraging on the ground for food or perched in trees singing their melodious song, and are active during the day but also come out at night to feed on moths attracted to lights. They nest in tree hollows lined with grasses and feathers where they lay two eggs which hatch after about two weeks incubation period by both parents, and are common throughout their range but have declined due to habitat loss caused by human activities such as land clearing for agriculture or urban development.
