Hawk Owl Collection

Hawk Owl is a species of owl found in the Northern Hemisphere, and is a medium-sized owl with a long tail and broad wings. Its head is large, with yellow eyes and prominent ear tufts. The upper parts are mottled brown and white, while the underparts are whitish with dark streaks. Hawk Owls inhabit forests, woodlands, grasslands, and other open habitats across Europe, Asia, North America and Greenland. They feed mainly on small mammals such as voles and mice but will also take birds up to the size of grouse or ptarmigan. They hunt by day or night depending on the season but usually roost during the day in dense foliage or cavities in trees. Their call is a loud “hoo-hoo” sound that can be heard from some distance away, and are monogamous breeders who build their nests in tree cavities or abandoned nests of other birds such as crows or hawks.
