Brown Wood Owl Collection

The Brown Wood Owl is a species of owl found in the tropical forests of South and Southeast Asia, and is a medium-sized owl, measuring between 28 and 33 cm in length with a wingspan of up to 60 cm. Its plumage is mainly brown with white spots on its upperparts, while its underparts are barred with dark brown and white stripes. Its eyes are yellowish-orange, while its facial disc is pale greyish-brown. The Brown Wood Owl feeds mainly on small mammals such as rodents, bats, and birds as well as large insects like grasshoppers and beetles. It nests in tree cavities or abandoned woodpecker holes, usually laying two to three eggs at a time. This species has adapted well to human disturbance by taking advantage of artificial nest sites such as buildings or bridges for roosting during the day or nesting at night. Although it faces threats from habitat destruction due to deforestation, it remains relatively common throughout much of its range due to its adaptability.
