Forest Duck Collection

Forest Duck is a species of waterfowl found in temperate and boreal forests of North America and Eurasia, and is a medium-sized duck, with males measuring around 20 inches long and weighing up to 2 pounds. The head, neck, breast, and upperparts are dark brown or blackish in color while the underparts are white or grayish. The bill is short and black with a yellow tip. Forest Ducks feed on aquatic invertebrates such as insects, crustaceans, mollusks, amphibians, fish eggs and small fish. They also consume plant material such as seeds from aquatic plants or grasses from the forest floor. During breeding season they form monogamous pairs that build nests near water sources such as streams or ponds where they lay up to 12 eggs at one time, and are generally shy birds but can be seen in large flocks during migration season when they travel south for winter months before returning north for nesting season again in springtime.
