Ringed Kingfisher Collection

The Ringed Kingfisher (Megaceryle torquata) is a species of kingfisher belonging to the Coraciiformes family of birds, and is native to Central and South America, where it can be found in a variety of habitats such as forests, marshes, rivers, lakes and coasts, large head with a short neck, long bill and bright blue eyes. Its body is mainly blue-gray in color with white rings around its neck and chest. It feeds on fish, crustaceans and other aquatic prey which it catches by diving into the water from a perch above. During breeding season the male will perform an elaborate courtship display involving flight displays and vocalizations. The female builds her nest in cavities or tunnels dug into riverbanks or tree trunks near water sources. Both parents take turns incubating the eggs until they hatch after about three weeks. The young fledge at around six weeks old but remain dependent on their parents for several months afterwards before becoming independent adults.
