Little Bee Eater Collection

The Little Bee Eater (Merops pusillus) is a species of bee-eating bird in the Coraciiformes family, and is found in Africa, from Senegal to Ethiopia and south to Angola and South Africa and has a bright green back, yellowish-green underparts, and a black head with white markings on its cheeks. The wings are brown with blue tips and the tail is long and pointed. Its diet consists mainly of bees, wasps, ants, beetles, grasshoppers, dragonflies, butterflies and moths. It nests in colonies of up to 40 pairs in sandy banks or termite mounds near water sources such as rivers or lakes. During courtship displays they perform aerial acrobatics including dives and swoops while calling out loudly, and are social birds that roost together at night in large flocks for protection against predators such as hawks or owls.
