Pink Pigeon Collection

Pink Pigeons (Pigeons Columbiformes) are a species of bird that is native to the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, and are one of the rarest birds in the world, and their population has been declining since they were first discovered in 1693. The birds have a distinctive pink plumage with white patches on their wings and tail feathers. They feed mainly on fruits, seeds, and insects found on trees and shrubs, and are monogamous, forming strong pair bonds that last for life. They build nests high up in trees or cliffs where they lay two eggs at a time which take around 18 days to hatch. Conservation efforts have been successful in increasing their numbers over recent years but they remain critically endangered due to habitat destruction by humans as well as competition from other species such as rats and cats which prey on them or compete for food sources.
