Northern Lapwing Collection

The Northern Lapwing (Charadriidae Charadriiformes) is a species of wading bird found in Europe, Asia and parts of Africa and has a distinctive black-and-white plumage, with a white head and neck, black wings, and a black tail. Its legs are yellowish-green in color. The Northern Lapwing is an omnivore that feeds on insects, worms, small mammals and birds' eggs. It nests on the ground in shallow depressions lined with vegetation or feathers. During the breeding season it performs elaborate courtship displays involving wing flapping and loud calls to attract mates. The female lays three to four eggs which are incubated by both parents for about 24 days before hatching. The chicks fledge after about 28 days but remain dependent on their parents for several weeks afterwards before becoming independent adults.
