Crowned Woodnymph Collection

The Crowned Woodnymph is a species of hummingbird found in Central and South America, and is a small bird, measuring only 10 cm long and weighing between 4-7 grams. Its plumage is mostly green with a white throat, brownish crown, and black line running from its bill to its eye. The wings are short and rounded, allowing for rapid flight in pursuit of nectar-rich flowers. The Crowned Woodnymph feeds on nectar from flowers as well as small insects such as spiders, ants, beetles and wasps. It also visits sap wells created by woodpeckers to feed on the sugary liquid that accumulates there. This species lives in open woodlands or savannas where it can find plenty of food sources throughout the year. It nests in trees or shrubs near flowering plants to ensure an ample supply of food for its young chicks during their development period.
