Black Bellied Hummingbird Collection

The Black Bellied Hummingbird is a species of hummingbird found in the Americas, and is a small bird, measuring only 3-4 inches in length and weighing less than an ounce. Its back is mostly gray with a black belly and tail, while its throat and chest are white and has short wings that allow it to hover in mid-air while feeding on nectar from flowers. They are be found in open woodlands, gardens, parks, and other habitats where there are plenty of flowers for it to feed on. They breed during the summer months when they lay two eggs in a nest made out of lichen or mosses that they build high up in trees or shrubs. The female incubates the eggs for 14-18 days before hatching them into young chicks which she will feed until they fledge at about three weeks old. This species of hummingbird is considered to be common throughout its range but may face threats from habitat destruction due to human development activities such as logging or urbanization.
