Common Kestrel Collection

The Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) is a small bird of prey belonging to the family Accipitriformes, and is widely distributed across Europe, Asia and parts of Africa, and is a familiar sight in many areas and has long wings with distinctive black spots on the underside, and its tail has a black band at the tip. The male Common Kestrel has grey upperparts with rusty red patches on its back, while the female is browner overall. Its diet consists mainly of small mammals such as voles and mice, but it will also take insects and other invertebrates. During breeding season it nests in cavities or on ledges of buildings or trees, laying up to five eggs which are incubated by both parents for 28-30 days before hatching. The young fledge after another 30-35 days but remain dependent on their parents for several weeks afterwards.
