Northern Goshawk Collection

The Northern Goshawk (Accipitridae Accipitriformes) is a medium-sized bird of prey found in the Northern Hemisphere and has a grey back, white underparts, and yellow eyes. Its wingspan can reach up to 24 inches and it can weigh up to 2 pounds, and is an agile hunter that feeds on small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects. The Northern Goshawk typically nests in coniferous forests or woodlands but may also inhabit open areas with scattered trees or shrubs. During the breeding season they are territorial and will aggressively defend their territory from other birds of prey as well as potential predators such as foxes or dogs, and are monogamous breeders with pairs staying together for life unless one dies or disappears due to human disturbance or predation by larger raptors such as eagles. The female lays three to five eggs which hatch after about 35 days of incubation by both parents who then care for the young until they are ready to leave the nest at around 8 weeks old.
