Eurasian Sparrowhawk Collection

The Eurasian Sparrowhawk (Accipitridae Accipitriformes) is a medium-sized bird of prey found throughout Europe, Asia, and parts of Africa and has a wingspan of up to 60 cm and is typically grayish-brown in color with white underparts. The head is rounded with yellow eyes and the tail is long and rounded. It feeds mainly on small birds such as sparrows, finches, starlings, doves, and thrushes which it hunts from perches or by flying low over open areas. Its call consists of sharp whistles that can be heard at distances up to 1 km away. During the breeding season it builds nests in trees or shrubs where it lays 3–5 eggs which hatch after about 30 days. The young fledge after another 30 days but remain dependent on their parents for several weeks afterwards before becoming independent hunters themselves.
