Air traffic visualisation

Air traffic visualisation. Computer artwork of air traffic over the USA. This image is one frame from an animation of air traffic over a 24-hour period. Air traffic data from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was plotted using a programming language called Processing and animated using Adobe After Effects and Maya. Plot colour and size were assigned based on aircraft type, location and altitude. This frame shows flight activity over the east coast of USA (right), west coast (left), central USA (centre), Florida and the Caribbean (lower right). The full animation reveals up to 19, 000 aircraft flying over the USA at any one time. Created by Aaron Koblin, design and media arts researcher, University of California, USA

Internet blog map

Internet blog map. Computer generated map showing relationships between internet weblogs (blogs). Blogs are internet sites where entries are made in journal style and shown in reverse chronological order. Blogs usually feature a large number of links to other sites. The blogging community is known as the blogosphere. This map shows blogs as nodes (coloured spots) and lines represent the links between them. Nodes within the centre are blogs based on technical discussion and gadgetry. Nodes at the outer part of the sphere are non- technical blogs that link to the centre.
