Princess Elizabeth and her new husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh begin their honeymoon at Winchester from where they travelled to stay at Broadlands, the country home of Earl Mountbatten. The couple were married at Westminster Abbey on 20 November 1947. Date: 1947

Floods at Creech Cutting, Devon, 1894

A Great Western Railway passenger train travelling down a flooded track at Creech Cutting, Devon, 1894. Water from the nearby river had flooded the line. The train could still travel along the track even though the water was deep. However, this was risky. There was a danger that part of the track or ballast had been washed away and the train would become derailed
