Commandant Mrs St Clair Stobart (Mabel Anne Stobart Greenhalgh, 1862-1954) and Serbian orderlies on horseback as she led the column in the retreat, en route for Petch (Pec), during the First World War. Mrs Stobart of the Women's National Service League had led a flying field hospital to the Serbian front line on behalf of the Serbian Relief Fund. Date: 22 November 1915

A boat is seen stranded on dry land along the Danube river bank in the city of Apatin, some 200 km (124 miles) north from Belgrade December 2, 2011. Record low water levels have pushed up power prices across the Balkans and may force local utilities to further boost expensive power imports to meet demand, market participants said on Wednesday. Serbia's utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) and Bosnia's second largest utility Elektroprivreda RS (EPRS) have already tapped power markets as water levels -- mainly on the Danube, Sava and Drina rivers -- have hit their lowest levels in 30 years.
