Giant Panda, Ailuropoda melanoleuca

Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) - feeding on bamboo, snowy focus, Wolong Research and Conservation Centre, Sichuan Szechwan Province, Central China Order Carnivora, Family Ursidae, bear, well known for its thumb, which is actually a modified wrist bone that enables the panda to dextrously grasp bamboo stalks, inhabits inhabit montane forests, mixed coniferous & broadleaf forests, herbivore, solitary, Classified as Endangered (EN) on the IUCN Red List 2006, and listed on Appendix I of CITES

Also shown are Robert Stephenson's innovative High Level Bridge (1849), and the Swing Bridge (1876) funded by Armstrong to replace a stone bridge that obstructed river traffic.
