Woman s costume in reign of Charles I (1625-1649)

Womans costume in reign of Charles I (1625 -1649). Wearing a simple dress with broad lace collar, deep cuffs and balloon sleeves. Bodice is laced at the front with ribbon the same colour as the narrow waist sash and hair is worn in curls. Illustrated and written by Dion Clayton Calthrop, 1875 - 1937 (1907)

English oak leaf pores. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of stomata (round) on the underside of a leaf from an English oak (Quercus robur) tree. Stomata are pores that open and close in order to regulate gas exchange in a plant. A pair of specialized cells known as guard cells (sausage-shaped), control the size of the opening by swelling to close the pore and shrinking to open it.
