Planets Venus & Saturn over silhouetted trees
Venus and Saturn. View of Venus (starburst effect, lower right) seen over silhouetted trees. The planet Saturn can be seen at centre left. Venus is the sixth brightest star in the sky. Venus, the second planet from the Sun, is known as the "evening star" or "morning star" because it is never visible for more than 3 hours before sunrise or 3 hours after sunset. It is the third brightest heavenly body, being outshone only by the Sun & Moon. Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun. It is best known for its rings, although these cannot be seen by the naked eye. Photographed on the 19th March 1999
