Glencoe, LMS/LNER poster, 1923-1947

Poster produced for London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) and London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands. The poster shows a landscape view of the area, with green hills, grazing cows and mountains in the background. Artwork by Norman Wilkinson, who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for several railways and organised the Royal Academy series of posters for the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) in 1924. Dimensions: 1016 mm x 635 mm

Greenisland Viaducts, LMS poster, 1923-1947

Poster produced for London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to advertise the Greenisland Loop Line in Country Atrim, Northern Ireland. The Greenisland Loop Line, which opened in 1934, was constructed to eliminate the necessity of trains to and from Belfast and stations in the North running via Greenisland. The line was approximately 3 miles in length. The Main Line Viaduct was the largest reinforced concrete viaduct in the British Isles. Artwork by Norman Wilkinson, who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. Explore Lincolnshire, LNER poster, 1936

Poster produced for London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote rail travel to and within Lilncolnshire. This poster is one of a series of six bird's-eye views of the areas served by LNER. The other posters featured the Home Counties, East Anglia, Yorkshire, Northumberland and Durham and Scotland. Artwork by Montague B Black, who was educated at Stockwell College and concentrated on military and naval artwork. He designed posters for LNER, Southern Railway (SR) and London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS). Dimensions: 1016 mm x 1270 mm
