Strawberry. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the surface of a strawberry. The flesh of the strawberry (Fragaria sp. ) is here coloured red. The beige shields" are the achenes, the true fruits borne on a edible fleshy receptacle. Strawberries are a popular summer fruit, enjoyed for their sweet, distinctive flavour. The plant itself grows low to the ground, and is pollinated by insects. Magnification: x9 at 6x7cm size. Magnification: x19 at 5x6 inch size."
