Coloured X-ray of two seahorses, Hippocampus sp

Seahorses. Coloured X-ray of two seahorses, Hippocampus sp. positioned back to back. A seahorse is a type of fish. The external bony skeleton consists of rings around the head, trunk, and tail and some of these bony plates have spines. The gill cavity is behind each eye. Seahorses move slowly using fins (not seen here); their tail can be used to anchor the animal to seaweed or coral. It is the male seahorse that incubates the fertilized eggs in a brood pouch on his abdomen. There are many species of Hippocampus distributed around the world, mainly in tropical and subtropical seas

Computer-aided design of a car body Featured 19 Aug 1998 Image

Computer-aided design of a car body

Car body. Computer-aided design (CAD) of a car body. The car body is shown as a wire-frame model. The design of a car body has to take into account factors such as air flow over it, driver and passenger comfort and the driver's field of vision. CAD is a tool by which objects can be completely designed in three dimensions, and tested before they are built. It saves time and money, as incorrect designs can be corrected quickly and easily. The data from the computer can be fed into a mechanical production line, and the object can be automatically built to the specifications
