An impromptu walkabout sealed the success of the Princess Royal's visit to Leamington

An impromptu walkabout sealed the success of the Princess Royal's visit to Leamington. Eager crowds of people, some of whom had stood for two hours in the sweltering heat to catch a glimpse of her were treated to smiles, laughter and friendly chatter. The Princess was there to open Warwickshire's first Save the Children charity shop in the town's Regent Street. Wearing a slim-fitting patterned dress with a pleated skirt in sunburst colours, she entered the shop, met the volunteers and cut a cake made in honour of the occassion. When she left the shop the crowds called to her and she went to chat with them. Among her adoring fans was June Bradbury(pictured), of Green Lane, Coventry who presented the Princess with a bunch of pink carnations. "I'm thrilled to have seen her, I'm a great admirer of the royal family."
