Coventry Cathedral EAW024986
COVENTRY CATHEDRAL. The old Cathedral was destroyed by incendiary bombs on 14 November 1940, with only its spire and outer walls surviving. Seen here from the air in July 1949 the Cathedral is surrounded by empty plots where other buildings were destroyed in the Coventry Blitz. The interior of the Cathedral had been cleared and looks very much as it still does today. A new Cathedral was completed on adjoining land in 1962. Aerofilms Collection (see Links)

Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club

Flying boat berth, Southampton EAW023211
BOAC FLYING BOAT SERVICES, Southampton Water. Flying boat services had been operating from Southampton since 1919. After the Second World War, BOAC started a new service from a terminal in the Old Docks in April 1948, with destinations including Australia, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Karachi and Tokyo. By November 1950 they had withdrawn the service as uneconomic. A new airline, Aquila, continued flying boat services from Southampton until 1958. Aerofilms Collection (see Links)
