View from top of Table Mountain looking towards the Cape Peninsula showing Cape floral Fynbos and Restios. Table Mountain, Cape Town, Western Cape Province, South Africa
A color photograph from the top of Table Mountain in Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town South Africa. The photograph shows the diverse cape floral fynbos including Restios (Cape Reeds) which survive the harsh and unforgiving environment of the Cape Weather. Fynbos meaning fine-leaved plants is a small belt of natural shrubland or heathland vegetation located on the Western Cape of South Africa. This area is predominantly winter rainfall coastal and mountainous areas with a Mediterranean climate. The fynbos ecoregion is within the Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub biome. In fields related to biogeography, fynbos is known for its exceptional degree of biodiversity and endemism, consisting of about 80% (8, 500 fynbos) species of the Cape floral kingdom where nearly 6, 000 of them are endemic
